What this site is
The 1 in 8 Billion Field Guide is an independent editorial project about the browser life simulation 1 in 8 Billion by Jin’s Earth. The game can be described in one sentence: 1 in 8 Billion is a free browser life simulation in which your birthplace is drawn from real demographic weights across 172 countries, and you live that one life year by year to its end. It covers the first-life walkthrough, the weighted birthplace draw, all 172 countries, the four status bars, money, school and work, family, endings and classroom mode.
The site exists because the game deliberately does not ship a manual. The birth screen is a registration desk, the controls are a small bar, and the mechanics are learned by playing. A guide can shorten that learning curve without pretending the game is something it is not.
Who makes it
The guide is produced by an independent editorial desk. There is no invented author persona, no fake credential and no “team of experts” page. The work is written with AI assistance and checked against the sources listed on the sources page; the editor is responsible for what is published.
That disclosure is deliberate. The game itself says it is made with AI assistance and checked by its operator. A guide about it should be equally clear about how it is made.
How the research works
Every page is checked against four kinds of evidence, in this order:
- The live game. The build we checked is v0.8.47 beta (27 October 2026). The controls, focus menus, status panel, money sheet and death record described on this site were read from that build.
- The developer’s own pages. The About page, the 172-country table, the teacher guide, the privacy policy and the terms page are the primary sources for facts about the game.
- The game’s data table. Country shares, odds, life expectancy, under-5 mortality and GDP per person come from the official country table. The snapshot date is printed on the pages that use it.
- Our own calculations. Regional totals, the nine-country half, the weighted averages and the pace arithmetic are ours. They are labelled as calculations and the formula is shown.
Editorial policy
The rules are simple and boring on purpose:
- Every number is either sourced or labelled as our calculation. If it is neither, it is removed.
- We do not invent a test, a playthrough, a quote or a person.
- We do not claim a feature works unless we saw it in the build or the developer described it.
- We do not present a game mechanic as real-world financial, medical or legal advice.
- We do not claim the game predicts a real life, and we do not use it to predict one.
- When the game changes, the page changes. The check date is on every guide.
What this guide does not know
The game is in beta and does not publish every internal formula. This guide does not know, and does not pretend to know:
- the exact probability weights inside a decision;
- the full event list or the exact effect of every event;
- the precise numeric effect of each focus on each bar;
- the exact retirement rules for every country and job;
- how the developer will change the game in the next patch.
Where the build shows a qualitative trade-off, the guide describes the trade-off. Where the build shows a number, the guide uses the number. Where neither exists, the guide says so.
No game sales, no accounts
This site does not sell the keepsake pass, host the game, run a mirror, or offer accounts. If you want to play, go to 1in8b.life. If you want to pay for the optional keepsake, do it there, where the seller is identified.
Corrections
If a page is wrong, the correction should be specific: the sentence, the source and the date. The changelog records substantive changes. The contact address is [email protected].
Corrections that change a fact are made on the page and logged. Corrections that are only a matter of taste are not. The guide has a point of view — play the person, not the score — and it does not pretend to be neutral about that.
A note on the domain
1-in-8b.com is close to the game’s name because the site is about the game.
It is not the official domain, and it does not try to pass as one. The disclosure is in
the header, the footer, this page and the official site check. If you ever see the guide
described as the official game, the description is wrong.
